100 things
I have a feeling it might take me a while to come up 100 things worth posting about myself, but this is probably the best means of introduction there is. So here goes.
1. I have blue eyes, and they’re my favorite feature. By far.
2. John and I were high school sweethearts, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
3. I’m really into re-reading the books I love, and I love a lot of books.
4. So far in my life, I am unable to overcome my tendency to clutter, either at home or at work.
5. I was born in Illinois, but I’ve lived in Indiana since I was 3, when my parents got divorced.
6. The farthest I’ve been from home is Spain. I spent 10 days there in high school, and I WILL go back someday.
7. My current vacation spot of choice, if I could go anywhere I wanted, would be Belize.
8. I really, really want to be a mom someday.
9. Currently in my CD player: Coldplay’s “A Rush of Blood to the Head.”
10. John and I just built a brand-new house, and it was the scariest but most exciting thing I’ve ever done.
11. Exciting, because it’s all ours, exactly how we wanted it, and it’s perfect.
12. Scary, because a month after we signed the purchase agreement, John became jobless.
13. We got married in July 2001, after being engaged for exactly 365 days.
14. I never knew I liked cats until we got our first one. His name was Romeo.
15. Now I’m a cat person. I still like dogs, but not as much as cats.
16. I am fiercely loyal to my friends.
17. I don’t like giving up.
18. I’ve had four car-related accidents in December. Three were actual car accidents (none my fault) and the first was when I got hit by a car in my high school parking lot, resulting in a broken knee.
19. I actually like “The Lord of the Rings” movies.
20. My degree is in Professional Writing, and I got it in 3 1/2 years.
21. I graduated from college in December 2000.
22. Before I went to the college I graduated from, I spent two years at a small private school with a strict dress code. The farther away I get from that experience, the more I wonder why I was there at all.
23. My favorite drink is an amaretto sour.
24. I hate public speaking.
25. I might, someday, have to do it as part of my current job.
26. I told my boss I’d quit if that happened, and I was only partially kidding.
27. I take way too many pictures of my cats.
28. I think people who abuse animals should be shot.
29. As much as I love animals, I don’t think I could ever be a vegetarian.
30. I like reality TV, especially “Survivor”.
31. I can be really impatient when I’m waiting on someone.
32. Besides my husband, my mom is my best friend.
33. I am one of those people who talks on my cell phone while driving.
34. My husband read that and added: “No, you’re not. Not annoyingly.”
35. I’m good at multi-tasking.
36. I pick up languages easily, but the only one I’m fluent in is Spanish.
37. I have a really quick temper, but it blows over quickly.
38. Chocolate, Chinese food, cheese, mushrooms, Doritos and Coke: These are a few of my favorite things.
39. I am completely, utterly transparent. I can’t hide what I feel.
40. I don’t like meatloaf. At all.
41. Cheetos disgust me, but cheeseballs and cheese puffs are OK.
42. I think Viggo Mortensen is extremely sexy.
43. I can’t dance.
44. The best restaurant I’ve ever been to was a fondue place last summer. That was also the first time I ate lobster. (Loved it.)
45. I’d like to go on a cruise someday. Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico … the destination doesn’t matter.
46. I can be stubborn to the point of absurdity.
47. I’d like to like red wine, but so far, I really don’t.
48. I’m addicted to “The O.C.” on FOX.
49. The first concert I ever went to was New Kids on the Block, and when my mom gave me the tickets, I cried.
50. I’m not as sure of myself as I’d like to be.
51. I can be really competitive, especially when John talks me into playing “Halo” on the Xbox.
52. I have too many shoes, according to John, but really I don’t think a girl can ever have too many shoes.
53. Before John and I got together, I had a tendency to fall for losers.
54. When I was little, I used to mix ketchup and applesauce and eat it.
55. I don’t do that now.
56. The first weblog I ever read belonged to my friend Ben, and from there I got addicted.
57. This post is taking me just as long as I thought it would.
58. I used to smoke (in junior high) but I don’t now.
59. No one really close to me has died yet (besides my cat), and I’m terrified of that happening.
60. I am an only child, and I used to mind it a lot.
61. Give me green M&Ms and you will make me happy.
62. Sometimes, I don’t forgive as easily as I should.
63. And sometimes, I forgive way too easily.
64. I want my high school body back, even though I didn’t appreciate it then.
65. I love the way a yard smells right after it’s been mowed.
66. I love Michael Stipe’s voice.
67. I can’t learn to knit, no matter how many times someone shows me.
68. If I was a boy, I would have been named Jared.
69. When I was 13, I went through a short phase where I stole things.
70. I hate having my picture taken.
71. I know how to windsurf.
72. I can’t roll my tongue.
73. I usually underestimate myself.
74. I’m teaching myself how to cook.
75. At family get-togethers, I always win the word games.
76. I sing really loudly in my car, but nowhere else.
77. I try not to be as bitchy as I know I can be.
78. I love improv comedy when it’s done well.
79. I could shop for weeks and not get bored.
80. I can’t run a mile without stopping.
81. I used to think I wanted to be an interior decorator.
82. Before I met John, I didn’t believe anyone besides my family would ever love me that much.
83. I know most of the words to “Monty Python & the Holy Grail.”
84. I google people I used to know to see what they’re up to.
85. I prefer bed & breakfasts to big hotels.
86. I used to wish my name was Dawn.
87. I give everybody a nickname, whether I tell them about it or not.
88. I really don’t like watching baseball.
89. When it comes to softball, I throw like a girl.
90. I once had a pet duck named Sam.
91. I don’t think you have to meet a lot of wrong guys to know when you’ve met the right one.
92. I still met my fair share of wrong guys.
93. I feel really stupid about some of these items.
94. Autumn is my favorite season.
95. I miss summer vacation.
96. I watch too much TV.
97. I used to have killer abs.
98. I tried out for the chorus in a high school play once and didn’t make it.
99. I chew my fingernails.
100. I think having this online journal will be a good thing for me.
