Let it (not) snow

I realize that snow is an inevitability when you live in the Midwest. I also realize that I’ve chosen to live here. Does it follow that I have to enjoy snow?

I don’t think so.

Yes, it can be pretty, and yes, snowball fights are great tension relief. But slipping and sliding through it on my way to work lessens my appreciation for those other qualities of snow pretty quickly.

We’ve got several inches of snow on the ground here, and with temperatures at a balmy -2 today, I’m guessing it’ll be sticking around for a while. So at some point in the near future, I need to make an important purchase.

A snow shovel.

John and I are new homeowners, having never had a driveway or sidewalk to call our own before. This week’s snow took us by surprise, and when I pulled into the driveway to find a snowdrift roughly the size of Rhode Island, I realized that in our many trips to Lowe’s, we’d forgotten to pick up a snow shovel.

Which led to John sweeping snow off the driveway with a broom at 6:30 this morning.

Clearly, this is not a permanent solution. And I find that I’m actually somewhat excited about the impending purchase, as it’s just one more sign of having our own home.

Hm. I think when you get enthusiastic about buying a snow shovel, it’s time to add some excitement to your life.
